Prior to founding Brown Partners with his brother John, Gerard was a partner for a combined 13 years in the corporate advisory groups of two leading national New Zealand law firms, preceded by four years at London “Magic Circle” firm Slaughter and May.
The clients for whom Gerard has acted include significant (some iconic) multi-national and New Zealand companies and businesses operating in a variety of industry sectors including infrastructure developments, industrial services, waste management services and resource recovery, rail and aviation transport services, the dairy industry, forestry, consumer goods, vehicle manufacture and supply, product wholesaling and retailing.
Gerard’s broad corporate experience includes advising clients on acquisitions and disposals, incorporated and unincorporated joint venture arrangements, limited partnerships, various other forms of investment and structures, capital raising (including financial markets laws compliance), major supply and services contracts, other major commercial transactions and contracts, shareholder agreements and corporate governance arrangements, corporate banking and finance, corporate restructuring and insolvency issues.
His substantial track record in high-profile transactions was recognised in 2005 with a team he led winning the inaugural “New Zealand Deal of the Year Award” at the prestigious ALB Australasian Law Awards and Gerard being a finalist for the “New Zealand Dealmaker of the Year Award”.
Gerard’s practice and interest is not limited to large corporations or very large deals, though. Within the flexible boutique environment of his own firm, Brown Partners, he regularly provides his expertise and experience to a variety of New Zealand businesses and owners, as well as to private investors both in New Zealand and from offshore. What he offers those clients is high quality legal advice, personal service and the guidance of a careful and experienced legal advisor in the achievement of the desired commercial and personal objectives.
